The Philippine National Police organization advocates the need to protect the environment. Recently, PNP officials said they hope to plant 10 million trees across the country in the next twelve months. Each of the PNP's 145,000 members has been encouraged to plant 6 trees every month.
Environmental awareness among PNP members is inevitable. Policemen and their families have been among the victims of deadly floods and landslides blamed on denuded watersheds. Relief and rescue operations during natural disasters also pose risks to PNP members. Last year, for example, a police officer was killed while conducting rescue operations.
